Individual Differences

About this book

Colin Cooper's undergraduate text on psychological individual differences — traits, cognitive abilities, personality structure and psychometric principles — widely linked from personality-research resource pages through legacy arnoldpublishers.com WebBook URLs (ISBN 0340662743).

The text takes the reader through the working topics of differential psychology: trait models of personality from Eysenck and the lexical tradition through to the five-factor framework, the structure and measurement of cognitive abilities, mood and motivation as individual-differences variables, and the psychometric principles — reliability, validity, factor analysis, test construction — that an undergraduate needs in order to evaluate published research.

Colin Cooper taught for many years at Queen's University Belfast before retiring to Canada, and the volume began as his Edward Arnold introduction for British psychology undergraduates. Successive Routledge editions have carried the title forward into a fifth edition under the Individual Differences and Personality line, and Cooper served as President of the International Society for the Study of Individual Differences from 2021 to 2023.
