Forum

The forum, open discussion.

A space for open discussion of the subjects Arnold publishes around — medicine, statistics, geography, applied linguistics, cultural studies, and the working practice that surrounds them. Anyone can read; identified writers can start a thread.

The forum is where the conversation around the Arnold list happens out loud. A clinician arguing with a textbook chapter; a statistician working through where a method does and doesn’t apply; a geographer pushing back on a journal piece; a teacher writing up what actually happened when they tried something in class. We don’t commission, edit, or pay for any of it. The threads here are open discussion under real names — not Arnold editorial.

Threads are posted by identified contributors and stay attributed to the person who wrote them. Arnold does not author, verify, or endorse the views in any individual thread, and each page carries a short disclaimer to that effect. The forum runs slowly on purpose — there’s no notification system, no live thread, and no comment stream below each post; threads sit in place and get updated when their author has something further to add. We think a slower pace produces better writing than the fast feedback loops of social platforms, and the people most worth hearing from on these subjects rarely have time to keep up with anything faster. To start a thread, see the contact details on the contributors page. For ordering, returns, and rights enquiries, please use the support desks instead — the forum isn’t the right place for customer queries.
