Conditions of use for this website.

What follows applies to arnoldpublishers.com — the editorial catalogue, the author and journal pages, and the press releases issued from this address. It does not govern the licences under which Arnold books and journals are published, sold, or licensed for institutional use; those are covered by the separate agreements between Arnold and its authors, distributors, and subscribing libraries.

What this site is

arnoldpublishers.com is a reference catalogue and editorial archive maintained for the books, journals, and authors associated with the Arnold imprint and its successors. It carries bibliographic records, author biographies, journal summaries, and occasional press releases. It is not a retail bookshop. Where a title is in print, ordering links direct readers to the relevant trade or academic distributor; the contractual relationship for any purchase rests between the reader and that distributor.

Reading and quoting from the site

You may read, save, and print pages of this site for private study, classroom preparation, library cataloguing, or short editorial citation, on the ordinary footing of UK fair-dealing practice. Quotation in scholarly or journalistic work is welcome where the source is properly attributed: a citation that includes the page title, the URL, and (for press releases) the date of issue is sufficient.

What you may not do without prior written permission is reproduce substantial portions of catalogue copy, author entries, or commissioned editorial pieces in coursepacks, third-party anthologies, AI training corpora, or commercial republications of any kind. Bibliographic facts (titles, authors, ISBNs, publication dates) are not themselves copyrightable and may be cited freely; the prose around them is.

Reuse of book extracts and journal articles

Sample pages, cover images, and short extracts shown on this site sit under the rights held by Arnold, by the author, or by a third party — most often the author or the original journal copyright holder. Permissions for reuse beyond fair dealing (translation, anthology, dramatic adaptation, audiobook, electronic republication, redistribution within a learning management system) are handled through our Rights desk; please direct enquiries to feedback@arnoldpublishers.com with the title, edition, and chapter or page range concerned, and we will route the request to the relevant rights holder.

Authors of works currently or formerly published by Arnold who wish to reuse their own material — for example, a chapter in a later monograph or a self-archived preprint — should contact the Rights desk in the same way. Author reuse is generally straightforward and handled at no charge.

Accuracy of catalogue information

We take care to record dates, editions, and authorship correctly, and we welcome corrections from readers, librarians, and the authors themselves. That said, the catalogue covers more than a century of imprint activity, and small details — particularly for out-of-print or transferred titles — sometimes drift. Catalogue entries should not be cited as the sole authority for an editorial history; the printed copyright page of any given edition takes precedence over the website summary, and a definitive bibliography of the firm to 1990 is given in Edward Arnold: 100 Years of Publishing (Bennett and Hamilton, 1990).

Clinical, technical and professional titles

A substantial part of the Arnold list is medical, nursing, or otherwise professional. Catalogue summaries and sample passages on this site are introductions, not clinical references. Any judgement about diagnosis, dose, technique, or current best-practice should be taken from the current edition of the relevant title and from current national or specialty guidelines — not from a catalogue page. The same applies to mountaineering and exploration titles where summaries describe historical practice rather than present-day technique.

Submissions, comments, and correspondence

If you write to us through this site — to flag a correction, to propose a manuscript, to request a permission, or to comment on an entry — you confirm that the message is your own and that it does not infringe a third party's rights. We may quote brief corrections in revised catalogue copy with attribution, and we forward unsolicited manuscript proposals to the editorial team for ordinary consideration; if a proposal is to be confidential, please mark it so when you send it.

Linking to the site

Links from book reviews, library catalogues, scholarly bibliographies, and personal reading pages are welcome and need no permission. Framing the site within a third-party page, presenting it as your own, or using Arnold marks in a way that suggests endorsement of an unaffiliated product is not permitted.

Outbound links from this site to retailers, library catalogues, and archive resources are provided for the reader's convenience. Those destinations are run by their owners under their own terms; we do not undertake their accuracy or availability.

Rights and trade marks

Arnold, Edward Arnold, the running-figure colophon, and the associated imprint marks are trade marks used by Arnold Publishers and its successor licensees. Reproduction of imprint marks for reference purposes — in book reviews, library records, or scholarly writing about British publishing history — is not objected to. Use that suggests an unauthorised commercial association is.

Notice of infringing material

If you believe a page on this site reproduces your copyrighted material without permission, please write to feedback@arnoldpublishers.com with the URL, a description of the work concerned, and a statement of the right you hold. We will act on legitimate notices promptly and, where the matter is straightforward, the disputed material will be taken down while it is reviewed.

Liability

We publish this site in good faith, with the ordinary editorial care to be expected of an academic imprint, and we make no further warranty as to fitness for any specific purpose. To the extent the law allows, neither Arnold Publishers nor its successor licensees accept liability for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site or reliance on information set out here. Nothing in this paragraph removes liabilities that English law does not permit a publisher to disclaim — including, in particular, the statutory rights of consumers.

Governing law

This site is published from London. These conditions, and any non-contractual claim arising from them, are governed by the law of England and Wales; the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer reading from elsewhere, the protections available to you under the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence are not displaced.

Changes

These conditions are revised from time to time, principally to reflect changes in catalogue scope, rights administration, or UK consumer law. The date at the top of this page changes when the text does; previous versions are not usually retained, but specific historical wording will be supplied on written request to the editorial address below.

Editorial address

Correspondence about this site, the catalogue, or these conditions should be sent to feedback@arnoldpublishers.com or to the postal address shown in the site footer. Requests relating to a specific title travel faster if the title, edition, and your standing in the matter (reader, librarian, author, rights agent) are stated in the first paragraph of your message. Trade and ordering enquiries belong on the Shop & ordering page rather than here.
