Treatment of Cancer

About this book

A reference for trainees in clinical and radiation oncology, covering the common solid tumours and their modern combined-modality management. Edited by Karol Sikora and Tim Illidge.

The text combines a working overview of the principles of cancer treatment — the biology of malignancy, the radiotherapy planning chain, systemic agents, and surgical staging — with a site-by-site survey of the common adult cancers in which radiotherapy and chemotherapy are deployed in combination with surgery. Coverage is pitched at the FRCR curriculum of the period and at medical and clinical oncology specialist trainees consolidating exam-level reading.

Karol Sikora trained in Cambridge and Stanford, built the Hammersmith oncology service for Imperial College and led WHO cancer-control programmes in the 1990s; Tim Illidge worked on lymphoma radiotherapy and tumour immunology at the Christie and the University of Manchester. The volume continued the Edward Arnold and then Hodder Arnold tradition of multi-author oncology reference works that anchor the British postgraduate cancer curriculum, and successive editions have been carried forward by CRC Press into the 2020s.
