Bladder Augmentation

About this book

A clinical monograph on reconstructive urology, covering the indications, surgical techniques, and long-term outcomes of bladder augmentation procedures. Part of the Spring 2000 list.

The volume gathers specialist chapters on enterocystoplasty using ileal, colonic and gastric segments, on autoaugmentation and detrusor myotomy, on the management of the neuropathic bladder in spina bifida and spinal injury, on the place of augmentation in bladder exstrophy reconstruction, and on the long-term metabolic and oncological consequences of bowel-segment incorporation into the urinary tract. Contributors are drawn from the international paediatric and reconstructive urology community.

It was edited by Paddy Dewan, an Australian paediatric urologist with a long clinical interest in congenital urinary-tract anomalies, and Michael E. Mitchell, the Seattle paediatric urologist whose work on complete primary repair of bladder exstrophy reframed the operative approach to the condition. Arnold issued the volume on its 2000 reconstructive-urology list as a single-topic specialist reference rather than a general urology textbook.
