A Dictionary of Statistics for Psychologists

About this book

A reference dictionary of the statistical terms, tests, and methods most often encountered in psychology research — from descriptive statistics and effect sizes to factor analysis, structural-equation modelling, and multilevel methods.

Entries cover the working vocabulary of the empirical psychology paper: study design and sampling, descriptive statistics and effect sizes, the parametric and non-parametric tests of group difference, regression and the general linear model, factor analysis, multilevel and longitudinal methods, and the terminology of statistical inference. Cross-references link each definition to related entries, and worked examples are drawn from psychology research practice rather than the abstractions of an introductory statistics course.

Brian S. Everitt is Professor Emeritus of Behavioural Statistics at King's College London, where he spent more than three decades at the Institute of Psychiatry and led the Department of Biostatistics and Computing. He co-authored the volume with Til Wykes for the Edward Arnold applied-statistics list, drawing on his work as Editor-in-Chief of The Encyclopedia of Statistics in Behavioral Science and co-founding editor of Statistical Methods in Medical Research.
