Biography

Nigel Sykes trained in anaesthetics before specialising in palliative medicine at St Christopher's under Cicely Saunders' institutional tradition. His Lancet and JAMA studies on opioids and sedatives at the end of life informed UK guidance on symptom control and transparent documentation. He co-edited CRC's Clinical Pain Management: Cancer Pain and contributed core chapters on cancer pain mechanisms to Management of Advanced Disease (Hodder Arnold).
