Biography

David S. G. Thomas leads field programmes on land degradation, dune reactivation and palaeoclimatic reconstruction across southern Africa and the Mediterranean. With Nick Middleton he co-directed the science chapters of UNEP's World Atlas of Desertification (Arnold UK edition, 1997), linking remote sensing indices with ground-truthed socio-ecological case studies. He has edited benchmark volumes for Wiley-Blackwell and the Routledge desertification handbook series while maintaining Oxford graduate training in dryland geomorphology.
