About the journal

Building Services Engineering Research and Technology (BSER&T) is the peer-reviewed research journal of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). The journal covers the engineering disciplines that determine the performance of the built environment: heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), building energy performance and operational energy modelling, indoor air quality and ventilation effectiveness, thermal comfort, daylighting and electric-lighting design, acoustics, and the integration of low-carbon technologies into building services.

Published by Arnold in association with CIBSE and transferred to SAGE Publications with the rest of the Hodder Arnold journal list in 2006, BSER&T has remained the principal British research journal in its field through both publishing transitions. Editorial scope sits at the intersection of mechanical-engineering research, architectural science, and sustainability practice — and the journal has been a leading venue for the building-physics community working on whole-building energy modelling, post-occupancy evaluation, and net-zero design.

Andrew Shea (University of Bath) has held the Managing Editor role in recent years. The journal continues to be co-branded with CIBSE and published alongside the Institution's professional outputs (CIBSE Guides, Technical Memoranda).
